Description: Charlie Ellis first struck hot steel in 2005 and has since traveled from Maine to North Carolina in pursuit of the perfect blade. In 2007, he enrolled in the Hand Wrought Metals program at Haywood College in Clyde, North Carolina. There, he learned a great deal from David Burnette, Mastersmith Jason Knight, as well as a host of others through the school's partnership with the American Bladesmith Society. Since 2014, he has been a full time blacksmith living in the mountains of western North Carolina with his wife and son.
Higonokami are the classic folding pocket knives native to Japan. This traditional knife is a friction folder, using the friction of the swivel and the pressure of the user's thumb on a protruding tang to prevent the knife from folding during use.
The drop point blade was forged to shape from 80CrV2 carbon steel and features a satin finish in the grinds and an antiqued finish on the flats. 80CrV2 carbon steel maintains high edge retention coupled with dramatic chip resistance. Because this knife is made from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to avoid rust.
The handle is made from a antiqued brass recovered from a cymbal. The cymbal has been folded and shaped into a handle. It features an integral deep carry pocket clip to keep the knife close at hand.
A fun and unique piece that you're sure to enjoy.
