Description: I was tremendously pleased to meet bladesmith Dave Skinner at the 2019 Guild Show of Southern Africa. Dave brings a refined eye and tremendous skill at the forge to his knives. Over the last few years, his work has continued to develop a level of refinement that is found in very few knifemakers.
Skinner began by forging out a billet of ladder pattern damascus. By using 15N20 and 1080 carbon steels, Dave ensures a keen, long lasting edge. The blade is flat ground for high performance. The blade moves into an integral guard. Creating integral guards takes tremendous skill and shows Skinner's work at its best. A coined spacer separates the handle from the blade. The handle is formed from a beautiful section of curly tambooti wood (Spirostachys africana). Tambooti is prized in Africa as a decorative hardwood. It is extremely dense and holds up beautifully to hard use. The handle is contoured for a sure, comfortable grip and is set with a hand domed pin.
This Integral Damascus Hunter is accompanied by a custom tooled leather sheath.
Exquisite work throughout!
