Description: 2021 marks the 45th anniversary of Bob's knifemaking. Throughout the year, he will be marking his 45 favorite knives of the year with the "Lay 45" mark to celebrate the anniversary. This is one such knife.
Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. This Bob Lay Elk Hunter is a tremendous knife and a less common model from Lay.
The blade is CPM154 stainless steel that has been heat treated to Rc 58 for optimal edge retention and durability. This powdered metallurgical steel has a particularly small grain structure, making it take an extremely keen edge and hold it! By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob shows off clean grind lines that are very dramatic. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge. A ricasso makes re-sharpening a breeze.
The handle is bocote (Cordia spp.) which is nicely offset by a sheep horn spacer. The natural wood has a nice mix of mid- and dark-tones. The handle is completed with a stainless steel butt cap and spacer giving it perfect balance in hand.
This knife is accompanied by a hand stitched, hand tooled leather sheath and a cordura storage pouch.
This knife will be a perfect companion for any adventure!
