Description: This Kosie Steenkamp custom Samson Jr. front flipper is a fantastic compact utility folder -- yet it would feel equally comfortable in most any collection. The drop point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed. The folder has incredibly smooth action thanks to the IKBS bearing system. The Ikoma Korth Bearing System (IKBS) was originally designed to fit balisong knives and uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. The front flipper is tremendously easy to use and won't get caught on things in your pocket. This style of flipper is designed to be flicked out with your thumb.
Kosie was introduced to knife making by his brother, Willem Steenkamp. He began making knives in 2007 and was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2009. Kosie is a stickler for detail and perfection, all these qualities and his obvious passion for this craft comes through in his work.
The hand ground drop point blade is M390 stainless steel with a hand rubbed satin finish. M390 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds onto it due to a high concentration of vanadium and chromium carbides. Its unique powder metallurgical process also promotes a uniform carbide distribution and clean steel properties, making M390 a popular steel used in surgical cutting instruments and in applications requiring a high finish. It offers excellent corrosion resistance due to its high concentration of chromium. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The handle combines black paper Micarta scales with crosscut natural Micarta bolsters. A matching black paper Micarta pivot collar surrounds the custom pivot. Bronze anodized titanium liners surround a natural Micarta back spacer. An orange peel textured and anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for right-side, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
