Description: This exceptional hunter was made by deceased knifemaker Ted (T.M.) Dowell. It has been in a private collection and is in new/mint condition. By all appearances, it could have been made yesterday. Dowell was one of the masters of the integral knife -- where the blade, tang and guards are all formed from one solid piece of steel.
The D2 blade and tang both have an elegant distal taper, resulting in an optimal balance. At the end of the handle, the tang spreads into a protective rear bolster. The blade features a deep hollow grind that Dowell is famous for -- this makes his knives great cutters and slicers while retaining excellent overall strength by virtue of the sturdy spine. All steel and pins are mirror finished.
The sheep horn handle is perfectly fit to the distal tapered tang and is secured using pins. A red fiber spacer assists the horn to adjust to temperature and humidity changes. Dowell's mark is on the left, inlaid between the pins. The knife is accompanied by a brown leather, pouch style custom sheath.
This knife just looks and feels classy! A very rare find.
