Description: This exceptional hunter nicknamed " The Dowell Knife" was made by Ted (T.M.) Dowell. Regrettably, Dowell passed away in 2012. This model has been extremely popular since its creation in 1974. This knife has been in a private collection and is in new/mint condition. Ted first set his sights on simple, yet elegant hunters just like this one! Hel learned to make full tang knives just like this one directly from Bob Loveless himself in 1970.
The BG-42 stainless steel blade and tang both have an elegant distal taper, resulting in an optimal balance. BG-42 is a powdered metallurgical (PM) steel with small crystalline structure that leads to dramatic improvements in edge retention. The spine is domed for a comfortable grip. The blade features a deep hollow grind that Dowell is famous for -- this makes his knives great cutters and slicers while retaining excellent overall strength by virtue of the sturdy spine.
The handle is vintage bone Micarta secured to the full tang using stainless spins. Ted's maker mark escutcheon is inlaid into the left side of the handle. The thin profiled handle will be easy to carry yet still very comfortable in hand.
To keep the knife close at hand, a pouch style leather custom sheath made by Ted is included.
Excellent work throughout!
