Description: The exceptional Integral Dagger is the work of Washington Mastersmith Michael Rader. Michael specializes in high performance kitchen knives and edged weapons from around the world. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances Michael could have made it yesterday!
The 6-1/4 inch blade is forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel and features a meticulous hand rubbed satin finish. 52100 is considered by many knifemakers and knife users to be among the highest performing steels used in modern knives. The dagger grind is perfectly symmetrical, showing Rader's exceptional skills at the grinder. His touchmark is on the left side of the blade and his M.S. mark is on the reverse.
The guard is integral to the blade. Creating an integral bolster in a custom environment takes a particularly talented smith. Integral bolsters provide exceptionally strong construction and durability.
The handle is Hawaiian curly koa (acacia koa). This dramatic wood is only found on the Hawaiian islands and is one of the most desired woods used in knifemaking. A large central spacer of African blackwood adds a nice contrast. African blackwood is among the densest woods found in the world features a jet black appearance. Copper and black fiber liners will help with natural woods adjust to humidity and temperature changes. A fluted damascus pommel finishes the handle.
To display the dagger prominently, a large piece of spalted maple was sculpted by hand to emulate a stone. This gives the presentation a "The Sword in the Stone" style of presentation.
Exceptional work throughout!
