Description: Joanne Wright is a young, female bladesmith currently apprenticing under fellow South African bladesmith Stuart Smith. Joanne has also taken forging courses at renowned bladesmith school Heavin Forge taught by Mastersmith Kevin Harvey and Mastersmith Heather Harvey. In addition to bladesmithing, Joanne has a passion for martial arts which often comes across in her work. We are excited to offer her work on BladeGallery.
Joanne forged this hunter from 5160 carbon steel. It was forged closely to shape, ensuring a keen, long lasting edge. The blade features an heirloom quality hand rubbed satin finish. Joanne's mark is on the right side of the blade. Because this knife is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the knife from rust.
Handle scales are African snake bean wood, set on a full tang using brass pins. Snake bean (Swartzia madagascariensis) is a dramatic wood that grows throughout southern Africa. It has a redish color similar to ironwood, though somewhat lighter in tone. The scales are hand contoured to provide a comfortable grip. The distal tapered tang provides perfect balance in hand.
To keep the knife close, a hand tooled pouch style leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
