Description: This exceptional Damascus Hunter was forged by Shayne Carter. Shayne is a Certified Journeyman Farrier and a became an ABS Mastersmith in 2019. In 1984, Shayne was the first American to win the World Champion Blacksmith Competition (WCBC) held in conjunction with the Calgary Stampede. Shayne is still the youngest participant to win the WCBC title at age 23. Over the years, Shayne has been very active in competitions, winning spots on the American Farriers Team in 1986,1988,1990,1993, 1997, and 1998. He travels all over the world teaching horseshoeing skills, blacksmithing, and knife and tool making. In 1998, Shayne received the Jim Linzy Outstanding Clinician Award. In 2000, Shayne was voted Farrier Industry Legend. This was awarded to the top 25 most influential contributors to the farrier industry. In 2003, Shayne was inducted into the International Horseshoeing Hall of Fame. Shayne’s knives have become well-known for their exceptional functionality and beautiful designs. He competed (twice!) in and won the popular show Forged in Fire in season three. He is an exceptional blacksmith and bladesmith.
The blade is forged from Shayne's own raindrop damascus combining 190 layers of 1084 and 15n20 carbon steels. The high contrast pattern is very controlled, showing Shayne's exceptional skill at the forge. The five inch blade is flat ground for a durable, razor sharp edge. Shayne's touchmark is on the left ricasso. His M.S. mark is on the right side.
The heirloom fit handle is curly koa wood secured to the tang with a hand domed pin. Koa (Acacia koa) is a beautiful exotic wood that only grows on the Hawaiian islands. It is one of the most desirable woods in the world. The wood selected here has tremendous chatoyancy that koa is famous for. The handle is perfectly fit to a polished 416 stainless steel guard. By heirloom fitting the handle, even if the wood shrinks, there will be no sharp corners exposed. The sculpted handle provides an extremely comfortable grip.
Exceptional work throughout!
