Description: Joanne Wright is a young, female bladesmith currently apprenticing under fellow South African bladesmith Stuart Smith. Joanne has also taken forging courses at renowned bladesmith school Heavin Forge taught by Mastersmith Kevin Harvey and Mastersmith Heather Harvey. In addition to bladesmithing, Joanne has a passion for martial arts which often comes across in her work. We are excited to offer her work on BladeGallery. This impressive bowie won Best Novice Fighting Knife at the 2023 Durban Easter Knife Show.
The 10.8 inch damascus blade is hand forged from 1095 and 15n20 carbon steels ensuring excellent edge holding and chip resistance. The high contrast pattern is very engaging and shows lots of movement in the steel. Wright's touchmark is on the left side of the blade. The blade is flat ground and razor sharp.
The handle is dyed and stabilized maple burl, secured to the tang with a hand domed bronze pin. The contoured coffin handle fills your hand and is extremely comfortable. Polished stainless spacers surround a large textured bronze spacer. The textured oval guard finishes the handle.
To keep the knife close at hand, a tooled leather custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
