Description: Visited Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey is always a pleasure. It's even better when they have some of their knives available. Kevin and Heather teach bladesmithing courses, with students travelling from all over the world to learn their techniques. Kevin uses the Heavin Forge mark on his knives when he creates a knife while demonstrating for his classes. This is one such knife.
The 9.6 inch clip point blade is hand forged 1050 carbon steel recovered from a railrock track. A differential heat treatment separates the ultra-hard cutting edge from a soft and supportive spine. An elegant ridge runs down the center of the spine. The Heavin Forge touchmark is on the left ricasso. Because this knife is forged from carbon steel, we recommend using camellia oil to protect the blade and natural wood handle.
The handle is sandpaper tree (Ficus exasperata) sculpted to provide a comfortable grip. The swirling figure of this light toned wood is very engaging. A spacer of camelthorn is surrounded by alternating black and white fiber spacers. A polished brass guard finishes the handle.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand tooled leather sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
