Description: Des Horn is one of the fathers of the South African knife industry. His influence can be clearly seen in other South African's work, but also extends into knives made around the world. Whether put to a daily carry folder or an art knife, his attention to detail and skill is legendary.
This Thiers gent's front flipper has handles of black lightning strike carbon fiber. This unqiue folder also includes a second set of mammoth ivory scales. This allows you to keep the knife as either a dress knife or a daily carry knife! The scales can be changed easily by removing two torx screws per side.
The blade is stainless damascus forged by Damasteel in Sweden. The damascus has been double tempered and cryogenically treated in liquid nitrogen. This style of heat treatment results in an incredibly long lasting edge, and high resistance to chipping.
The blade is perfectly centered and has smooth action. It is easily opened using the front flipper mechanism. This style of flipper doesn't catch on things in the pocket and is designed to be opened with a rotating motion of your thumb or index finger, though it can be 'flicked' with practice.
Lighting strike carbon fiber handle scales are set on anodized and fileworked titanium liners. The liners surround a matching lightning strike carbon fiber backbar. The second set of mammoth ivory scales are highly polished and well matched in caramel tones. Des filled a check in the ivory with 24k gold. The scales will fit to the Mercury effect hand carved zirconium bolsters. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is mined primarily in Australia and South Africa. It is extremely resistant to scuffing. This knife is sure to be the gem of any collection.
Excellent work throughout!
