Description: Curtis Iovito and Mark Carey, co-founders of Spartan Blades, LLC, possess over 40 years of combined military service and experience. Since their retirement from US Army Special Forces they have been involved in the development, marketing, and program management of tactical gear and ballistic armor products. For years, Curtis has designed and made custom knives for his friends in Special Forces and for other companies. Mark and Curtis have combined their shared love of knife making, military experience and knowledge of the tactical equipment market to form Spartan Blades, LLC with a singular mission: “Manufacture finely crafted tactical and field knives.”
The design of the Spartan-Harsey Nessmuk (SBSL005BK) is based on a classic American design made famous by George Washington Sears (1821-1890) and the more moderate ergonomic designs of William W. Harsey Jr.
George Washington Sears under the tutelage of a local Narragansett Indian named Nessmuk, had his eyes opened to the natural world by his mentor who taught him the skills he would need to survive within it. Years later, when Sears began to write about that world, he took his mentor’s name, which meant "wood drake," as his byline, as well as "all his love for forest life." Under the pen name of "Nessmuk," he wrote many letters to Forest and Stream magazine in the 1880s. These popularized canoeing, the Adirondack Lakes, self-guided canoe camping tours, the open, ultra-light single canoe, and what many today call environmentalism. It was a happy union of technology and art, nature, and life.
The upswept blade is 1095 Cr-V carbon steel hardened to 59-60 Hrc. A black coating prevents light reflection and will help protect the blade. Jimping along the thumb ramp offers excellent purchase.
Textured and contoured injection molded scales are set on a full tang for strength and integrity. The ergonomic handle provides a comfortable and confident grip whether wet or dry. A lanyard can be added to the rear for extra retention.
A injection molded sheath is included to keep the knife close at hand.
Made in the USA.
