Description: Seattle native Jeff Driscoll's knives are unique, dramatic creations. A plumber by day and knifemaker by night, Jeff loves using handmade knives as his art canvas. RavenWolf Damascus Desk Knife shows his creativity and willingness to experiment with his work.
The blade is Grosserosen patterm damascus forged from 20C and 15N20 carbon steels by Danish bladesmith Poul Strande ensuring excellent edge holding. Poul began forging damascus knife blades in the summer of 1988. Since 1995, he has exclusively forged knife blades and carried out repair work for museums and churches. The damascus pattern is deeply etched for high contrast. The blade features a classic Scandi grind. Poul's touchmark is on the right side of the blade.
The tigerwood handle is hand carved by Driscoll into the body of a wolf inspired by Northwest Native American art. Abalone inlays are used throughout the body. The tail is damascus forged by Washington bladesmith Matt Whitmus.
The jatoba wood sheath forms the head of a wolf with matching abalone inlays. A raindrop damascus crest is inlaid into the top of the head. The sheath is felt lined to help prevent scratching the blade.
Jeff wrote a creation story of his project:
"Young Wolf was bored and unhappy with his life. He was tired of the hunt and the struggle for dominance in the pack. He saw and envied the Raven. He thought "To be free to soar above the treetops and to ride the wind without a care, yes, that would be the life!"
So he sought out the Shaman and asked him to turn him into a Raven. The Shaman agreed but said, "I will turn you into a Raven but you must agree to do one thing for me in return. Seek out a Raven's nest and steal a Raven's egg for me and bring it to me so I can raise a chick as my own."
The Wolf agreed to his terms and the Shaman turned Wolf into a Raven. At first Wolf was overcome with joy at the freedom of flight and independence. But over time he tired of eating just insects and seeds and such and longed for some good red meat. He returned to the Shaman and asked him to turn him back into a Wolf. Shaman said "Where's my Raven's egg that you agreed to bring me?" And Wolf said "Oh forget about that - I did! I don't have time now and I'm hungry! Just turn me back into a Wolf right now!"
So as a punishment for not fulfilling his obligation, when Shaman transformed him he left his head a Raven's so Wolf was unable to eat the meat he craved and was shunned by his pack because he was so strange, leaving Raven Wolf alone."

This desk knife is sure to be a beloved part of any knife collection!
