Description: This Clip Point Bowie is the work of John M. Smith. John was well-respected as a forger of modern day Bowies and a student of the famous Bill Bagwell. His bowies are particularly sought after by collectors and users alike. John has retired from knifemaking, and his bowies do not come up for sale very often. Most who have one of his knives, choose not to part with them. This is a rare opportunity to own one of John's coveted Bowies. This knife was kept in a private collection since it was made. It is in brand new condition and by all appearances, John could have made it yesterday!
The 10 inch clip point blade is hand forged 5160 carbon steel and features a hand rubbed satin finish. The large clip running about half way up the blade stops just short of being fully sharpened. John's touchmark is on the left ricasso.
The handle features a downturned section of lacewood. The contoured handle provides a comfortable grip without being abrasive. The butt cap, oval guard and spacer are wrought iron. The pommel and front and back of the oval guard are etched. The side of the guard is satin finished.
To keep the knife close at hand, a hand stitched leather sheath made by John in Bagwell's style is included.
Excellent work throughout!
