Description: Charlie Ellis first struck hammer to steel in 2005 and has since traveled from Maine to North Carolina in pursuit of the perfect blade. In 2007, he enrolled in the Hand Wrought Metals program at Haywood College in Clyde, North Carolina. There, he learned a great deal from David Burnette, Mastersmith Jason Knight, as well as a host of others through the school's partnership with the American Bladesmith Society. Since 2014, he has been a full time blacksmith living in the mountains of western North Carolina with his wife and son.
This elegant utility knife was inspired by the Scottish Sgian Dubh, which translates as 'black or hidden knife'. It is traditionally worn tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible.
The blade on this sgain dubh was forged to shape from 8670 carbon steel. 8670 is recognized for its exceptional toughness and good wear resistance. A meticulous hand rubbed satin finish adds to its heirloom quality. The blade is hollow ground with a reinforced tip to prevent breakage.
Handle scales are Ghost G10, secured to the full tang using G-10 pins. The handle is sculpted to provide a comfortable, non-slip grip.
To keep the knife close at hand, a black leather scout carry custom sheath is included.
Excellent work throughout!
