Description: Dylan McCoun of McCoun Tomahawks specializes in producing traditional style tomahawks to fit a wide range of uses - from camping to combat. Dylan McCoun is a third generation bladesmith, beginning in the early 60's with Charles McCoun making a few knives as a hobby. These were passed down to his son Mark in the late 80's when he began his knifemaking journey. Dylan is the third generation to start this hobby turned professional. His passion for bladesmithing started at a young age from watching his dad. He made his first knife when he was eight years old and hasn’t stopped since. By 16, he was making knives to sell and he went into bladesmithing full time when he graduated high school.
This Eastern Woodland Hawk is hand forged from Dylan's own damascus - combining 1095 and 15N20 carbon steels along with nickel. The top and bottom of the head are hand fileworked. The utilitarian blade culminates in a hammer. This hawk is perfect for bushcrafting and chopping kindling. The head measures 5.8 inches from the cutting edge to the hammer. The cutting edge is satin finished. The head features a blackened forge finish.
The haft is charred hickory with a linseed soak. The haft measures 17.9 inches from top to bottom.
This hawk is accompanied by a hand stitched leather custom sheath for easy carry. Excellent work throughout!
