Description: Dylan McCoun of McCoun Tomahawks specilizes in producing traditional style tomahawks to fit a wide range of uses - from camping to combat. Dylan McCoun is a third generation bladesmith, beginning in the early 60's with Charles McCoun making a few knives as a hobby. These were passed down to his son Mark in the late 80's when he began his knifemaking journey. Dylan isthe thrid generation to start this hobby turned professional. His passion for bladesmithing started at a young age from watching his dad. He made his first knife when he was eight years old and hasn’t stopped since. By 16, he was making knives to sell, and he went into bladesmithing full time when he graduated high school.
This large tomahawk is Dylan's Danish Style Axe model based on the infamous Dane Axe. This favored weapon of the Saxon Huscarl saw action throughout Northern Europe in the hands of Saxon, Norse, and Norman alike. The long handle and thin blade create a fearsome weapon capable of immense damage to the lightly armored opponents of that time.
The head is hand forged from 1" 4140 carbon steel square bar, chosen for its chromium and carbon content -- making it an excellent choice for heavy use, high impact tools. The combat blade culminates in a hammer. The head measures 7-1/3 inches from the cutting edge to the hammer.
The haft is charred hickory with a linseed soak. The haft measures 18.3 inches from top to bottom.
This hawk is accompanied by a hand stitched leather custom sheath for easy carry.
Excellent work throughout!
