Description: Mastersmith Wade Colter's knives have a spirit of their own. Part of this is the amazing fit and finish found on all his knives, but much of it is not entirely able to be captured in a photo. This exceptional hunter has been in a private collection since it was made. It is in new condition and by all appearances, Wade could have made it yesterday.
The ladder pattern damascus blade was hand forged. It has a beautiful chatoyancy. This effect, found naturally in tiger's eye gemstones and exhibition curly maple, is rarely captured in damascus. Here, it is has been created perfectly. The spine is fileworked with a vine pattern and is stamped with Wade's initials. A strong distal taper gives excellent balance.
The amber stag handle was recovered from a late 1800s carving set. It has just enough texture for a perfect non-slip grip. The blade is separated from the handle with an oval sterling silver guard and ferrule. A buffalo nickel is inlaid into the butt.
