Description: This frontier camp knife is an exceptional example of Raymond Richard's work. It has an elegance and timeless sense to it that wouldn't be out of place by the side of an American pioneer, bravely breaking ground in a new land. It captures the spirit of a time gone by - yet has the excellence one expects from a contemporary knifemaker.
The blade is hand forged W2 carbon steel and features a differential heat treatment which provides an ultra hard cutting edge with a soft and supportive spine. W2 carbon steel is highly revered for its ability to hold an excellent edge coupled with good toughness and chip resistance. The blade is convex ground with a distal tapered spine. Raymond's touchmark is on the spine of the blade.
The handle features a central column of stag. The guard and end cap are antique wrought iron. The handle has been nicely contoured to provide a secure, comfortable grip.
A frontier style rawhide leather sheath made by the late John Cohea is included to keep the knife close at hand. Cohea was renowned for his exceptional frontier style sheaths. The sheath is adorned with an antler concho, trading beads, tin cones, and a bird's talon.
Excellent work throughout!
