Description: Butch Deveraux learned under the watchful eye of Mastersmith Ed Fowler and certainly the influence is immediately apparent. He is a graduate of Ed's School of High Performing Knives and shows tremendous skill both in implementation and style.
This knife was made in 2010 and was originally sold from BladeGallery. It has been in a single private collection and has been meticulously cared for. By all appearances, Deveraux could have made it yesterday.
Like knives created by Mastersmiths Bill Burke and Ed Fowler, each knife is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The blade has a recurve for aggressive cutting. The heat treatment follows the formulas developed by Mastesmiths Ed Fowler and Bill Burke. This technique creates some of the sharpest, longest lasting edges found anywhere.
The blade was hand forged to shape from 52100 carbon steel. A differential heat treatment ensures a keen, long lasting edge, with a strong, supportive spine. The grain structure that is visible on the sides of the blade is indicative of many low temperature thermal cycles and a particularly exceptional heat treatment.
The handle feels so natural in the hand, you’ll have a hard time putting it down. When wet, sheep horn does not become slippery, and it is amazingly durable. The spacer is created by taking two sheep horn end cuts and aligning them outward, producing a very pleasing effect.
This yearling will make a perfect hunting knife or a serious bird and trout knife. Though it is perfect for most daily use, it would be the pride of most any collection.
The knife is accompanied by a hand stitched pouch style leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout!
