Description: Mastersmith Bill Burke makes knives that are as high performance as a knife can get. He is best known for his sheep horn hunting knives. Here, he has put his hands to a very rare and very elegant folder, which draws on the aesthetics of his hunters.
Like his hunters, the blade was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment and tempering follow the formulas developed in conjunction with Ed Fowler, and has proven to create some of the sharpest and most long-lasting edges found anywhere. A differential heat treatment results in a blade with a soft, supportive spine and a keen, long lasting edge. Bill's mark is on the left side ricasso. His Mastersmith mark is on the right ricasso.
Sheep horn scales are set on a solid titanium frame. Like his hunters, a front 'ferrule' is formed with end cut sheep horn. The scales are perfectly fit to brass bolsters and are secured with brass torx screws. The handle is completed with a lanyard hole. The ball bearing pivot uses a design developed by Gavin and Grant Hawk. The action is silky-smooth and the blade perfectly centered. Excellent fit and finish throughout.
