Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kiku Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. His father runs a small workshop in Seki, grinding blades for production knife makers. Kiku joined his father's business at the age of 15 and learned grinding technique from his father. Kiku's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
Kiku's Otameshi is a perfect-sized utility knife featuring Japanese SHSS. The name itself gives away the design intent -- "Otameshi" means "to test the cutting ability". Kiku has introduced this model as a great EDC knife for users to put SHSS through its paces in real world scenarios. This high nitrogen martensitic stainless steel was developed by Daido Steel Company with the help of a well-known Japanese metallurgical authority and inventor. The drop-pointed blade features Kiku's signature disruptive patterning on the blade and is subtly swedged. The sweeping choil is spaced to allow more than one position for the index finger to rest in while the jimping on the thumb rest provides a stable platform for fine work. Textured G10 scales are set on the exposed tang to fill the hand nicely and are grooved towards the spine to accommodate fingers when used edge-in. The entire pommel has jimping to provide traction. A lanyard hole completes this compact utilitarian design. Accompanied by a Kydex sheath.
