Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a Master Smith June 2008, is well known for creating some of the best hunting knives that can be found anywhere. This boot has a thin profile for easy concealment. This knife has been in a single collection since it was first made in 2000. It has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. It was never carried and has never been used to cut. By all appearances it could have been made yesterday.
The blade was hand forged from premium 52100 carbon steel. Many knifemakers and users feel that 52100 is among the best, if not the best steel currently used for knifemaking. The blade is triple quenched and triple tempered for optimal edge holding and durability. A differential heat treatment line is clearly visible in the blade and shows the transition between the soft supportive spine and keen, hard cutting edge.
This knife was pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment follows the formulas that Bill developed in conjunction with Mastersmith Ed Fowler in conjunction. This technique creates some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
The handle is formed from extremely rare high Arctic muskox horn. Muskox horn is one of the most rare and majestic handle materials used in the knife world. The highly polished musk ox has a unique grain structure that immediately grabs the eye. The pommel shows the natural texture of the outside of the horn. The knife has perfect balance and feels exceptional in the hand.
