Description: Tom Johanning set out to create the ultimate survival knife. Ground from a single solid piece of A-8 tool steel, the Tac-11 was designed with the intention of weathering any task thrown at it, and it succeeds to an exceptional degree.
The blade, front and rear bolsters and tang have been powder coated with a non-reflective aluminum oxide finish. Just shy of 7 inches, the blade has deep fullers on both sides that nearly run the entire length of the blade. A stout tip ensures it will continue to perform exceptionally without failure. Aggressive jimping on the spine and a prominent integral guard ensure a steadfast grip.
The scales are formed from black linen Micarta and set on the tang with two brass Loveless style rivets. Swelling in the middle of the handle conforms comfortably to the hand. A matching integral end guard can be utilized in a two finger grip for longer leverage and chopping. Additionally, a full handed grip can be applied when using the end cap as a makeshift hammer. A single brass lanyard tube offers an easy alternative means of drawing the blade. The knife is accompanied by a leather sheath made by Robert Schrap, complete with a holder for a field use sharpening stone. A fine India stone is included.
Tom Johanning's Tac-11 is truly a rugged knife capable of tackling most any task thrown at it and is an essential addition to any outdoorsman's collection of tools.
