Description: Mastersmith Steve Dunn is known nearly as well as an engraver as he is a bladesmith … and that says a lot. Steve, who teaches classes in engraving at the GRS school, has taught more knifemakers the intricate skills of engraving than anyone I know. This is an exceptional bowie by Mastersmith Steve Dunn.
The damascus blade was forged from 1075 and 15N20 carbon steels for a keen, long lasting edge. The undulating pattern is one that he calls West Texas Wind, A distal taper results in optimal balance and brings weight toward the center of the knife. The 416 stainless steel guard has been meticulously engraved in western scroll, and nicely complements the damascus.
Mortised construction of the handle is a very difficult and labor intensive procedure, requiring tremendous skill, however it results in a handle that will last generations. The presentation grade walnut burl wood is secured by domed pins providing a sure, comfortable grip. The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled, hand stitched leather sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
