Description: Master Smith Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook work together to create knives that have a timeless beauty that will quickly become family heirlooms. Their name is well known in re-enactment circles throughout the world and movie buffs may recognize their work in films such as Last of the Mohicans. Their knives have an authenticity rarely found in other maker's work. Finding Daniel and Karen's knives has become increasingly difficult. This Belt Knife was likely made in the 2000s and has been meticulously cared for.
This rustic Belt Knife has a dramatic sense of presence. The 1095 carbon steel blade was forged to shape from an old Nickelson file. At the spine and flats, Daniel has left the file's texture intact. An antique finish sets the tone. Filework on the spine continues from tip, to ricasso and through the full tang. Both the tang and the blade have been distal tapered for optimal balance.
Warm toned walnut scales are set onto the full tang. The mild steel guard is dovetailed to the scales for a timeless fit.
The knife is accompanied by a sheath by Karen Shook. The frontier style sheath is formed from rawhide that has been covered with deer hide (with fur intact). Leather tassels and antique glass trade beads complete the presentation. Exceptional work throughout!
