Description: This elegant damascus hunter was forged by Mastersmith Ray Kirk of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Ray first started forging knives from springs back in 1989. He received his Mastersmith stamp in 2005. Ray makes an elegant knife, with excellent fit and finish, designed to be used daily. This Hunter was kept in a single private collection since it was made in 2003. It is in new condition. By all appearances, Ray could have made it yesterday!
The blade was forged to shape from a round bar of damascus forged from 52100 and 15N20 carbon steels. The pattern is clear and shows Ray's clean crisp grind lines. The left size is marked with “RakeR” with the “JS” mark. Because this knife is forged from carbon steels, we recommend using camellia oil to the oil the blade and natural stag handle.
Sambar stag scales are set on the full tang. The distal tapered tang provides excellent balance in hand. The pins have been nicely textured to resemble the natural texturing of the stag. The stag handle provides a comfortable, slip-resistant grip even when wet.
Excellent work throughout!
