Description: Bob Lay's designs are well thought through and show an amazing degree of craftsmanship. This Personal Hunter shows his work at its best.
The bocote handle has a nice mix of light and dark tones and a swirling figure. It is a particularly beautiful example of bocote wood. A very rare muskox horn spacer adds excellent contrast. Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) is an Arctic mammal of the family Bovidae. Muskoxen primarily live in Arctic North America and Greenland, with small populations in Sweden, Siberia and Norway. The world population is estimated at between 80,000 and 125,000. Muskox is among the rarest handle materials used by knifemakers today. Alternating brass and black fiber spacers assist the handle to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity. The brass guard and butt cap create a perfect balance in the hand. It is rare to find a Bob Lay knife with brass fittings, and the result is wonderful!
By mirror polishing the flats of the blade and satin finishing the grinds, Bob creates a knife with grind lines that are very dramatic. The blade has been heat treated to 59Rc for optimal edge retention. CPM 154 is a powdered metallurgical stainless steel made by US steel maker, Crucible.
The knife is accompanied by a hand tooled sheath and Cordura storage pouch as well as a certificate from the maker.
