Description: This Willem Steenkamp custom Tarpon EDC liner lock is a flipper design and a fantastic utility folder. The clip point blade and ergonomic handle are perfectly designed for the task at hand.
Willem was accepted as a member of the Knifemakers’ Guild of Southern Africa (KGSA) in May of 2007. His attention to detail is clearly evident in his knives.
The 3.4 inch clip point blade is made from N690 stainless steel hardened to 59HRC with a satin finish. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. Increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is well centered with silky-smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle. The blade uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
The handle is made from blue lightning strike carbon fiber. Copper wire is woven through the carbon fiber strands. Zirconium bolster meet with the carbon fiber scales. The dramatic bolsters are textured and colored by heat. Zirconium is a new material to the knifemaking world. It is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. Zirconium is highly resistant to corrosion and scuffing. The clip, liners and backbar are formed from anodized titanium. The clip is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Exceptional work throughout!
