Description: Bill Burke, who was honored as a journeyman smith in 2003 and a Mastersmith in 2008, makes knives that are as high performance as they can get. Each knife is pre-tested for edge flex and cutting ability before assembly. The heat treatment follows the formulas Burke and Mastersmith Ed Fowler developed, which create some of the sharpest and most long lasting edges found anywhere.
This camp knife features an 9 1/3" blade with a strong, thick, spine. As with all of Bill's camp and hunting knives, the carbon steel blade has been differentially heat treated, creating resilience at the spine with an edge that won't quit. 5160 carbon steel provides a resilience that is perfect for high performance wood cutting and other camp knife tasks.
The handle is formed from natural Australian sheoak (Allocasuarina spp.) wood set on a full tang. The warm orange toned wood is nicely carved with thumb rests at the front, swelling at the palm, moving into a slimmer waist and swelling again at the end of the handle. By tapering the tang, Bill brought the weight forward for a formidable swing.
The knife is accompanied by a waxed leather pouch style sheath.
Excellent fit and finish throughout.
