Description: Renowned Japanese knifemaker Kikuo Matsuda has been grinding blades for over 40 years and is a 5th generation knife grinder. His unique, dramatic grinds are well known throughout the knife industry. Kiku's skill at the grinder has become legendary.
This is the new collaboration SWAT Knife with Jason Davis, SWAT/Sniper Team Leader in L.A. Kikuo has been working with Jason since this January 2017, creating a hard use, yet compact tactical utility. The Southern Cross SWAT is draws influence from Kikuo's Shinobi and Shinobazu. The modified handle is a little more curved and longer with deeper finger grooves for a secure back-hand grip.
The Kiku Knives Southern Cross SWAT carries over many design features that Jason Davis deems a must-have for a knife built to withstand the needs of an armed professional. The drop point tip is reinforced for piercing and prying. The primary bevel is done in Kikuo's signature Hamaguri-ba (convex) grind. OU-31 is a Japanese PM (powdered metallurgical) steel with micro fine crystalline structure that embodies many of the best attributes needed for knives. The steel is hardened to 64 Hrc (very hard!) and has more than 3 times the toughness of D2. It is Kiku's preferred steel for his knives.
Jimping on the thumb ramp provides a stable platform to guide the cutting edge. The elongated choil ensures the hand will not slip onto the blade in a variety of grips. The pommel terminates in a slightly rounded point for use as a striking implement. Jimping around the pommel gives the thumb an extra added bit of traction when used in an icepick grip style. The lanyard hole gives the user the option to add an extra bit of security. Whether gripped edge-in or -out, the Southern Cross design makes it an effective tool no matter how it is grasped when a fraction of a second can mean the difference between life and death. In the tough, compact knife category this is one edged tool to rule them all.
Accompanied by a Kydex sheath.
