Description: This exceptional folding knife was made by South African knifemaker Herucus Blomerus. I was very excited when Andre Thorburn and Andre Van Heerden introduced me to their friend. His work immediately caught my attention. A resident of Pretoria, Herucus (pronounced 'eh-roo-koos') has been a proud member of the South African Knifemakers Guild since 2005.
The drop point N690 stainless blade is meticulously hand satin finished in the grinds and mirror polished on the flats. N690 is a super-steel created by Bohler in Austria. It takes an incredibly sharp edge and holds on to it. The increased toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. The blade has been hollow ground for easy, quick touchups. An elongated swedge gives this LL14 a very unique, handsome look.
The blade is easily opened by using the ambidextrous flipper mechanism. It is perfectly centered and has silky-smooth action due to the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed for balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create smooth action with no blade play.
Black and gold carbon fiber scales are set on jimped blue anodized titanium liners providing an elegant contrast. By doming the scales, the alternating layers are exposed in attractive patterns. The carbon fiber scales meet perfectly to textured zirconium bolsters. The textured, anodized zirconium bolsters provide a steadfast grip that is also very beautiful. Zirconium is a transitional metal that is primarily mined in South Africa and Australia. Zirconium is highly resistant to corrosion and scratching. The handle is completed with a milled titanium pocket clip with a ceramic retention ball that is mounted for right-handed, tip-up carry.
Excellent work throughout!
