Description: Trevor Burger is a second-generation knifemaker following in the steps of his father, Fred. He has an eye for detail. His knives have exceptionally smooth action and clean, no-nonsense designs.
The EXK was originally developed by Trevor's father in conjunction with Mike Skellern, and continues to be one of the most popular folders that he makes. The blade runs on an IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play. Trevor created this EXK Front Flipper with ceramic ball bearings. Generally IKBS bearings are made either from tool steel or from stainless steel. Stainless steel can wear away, resulting in uneven action over time. Tool steel bearings can oxidize making the action rough. Ceramic bearings are the best of all worlds. Extremely hard and wear resistant, they are also inert and will not oxidize. The blade has silky-smooth action and is easily opened single-handed using the gent's front flipper. The blade is perfectly centered.
The blade is formed from premium Bohler ELMAX stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 60. A hand rubbed satin finish lends an heirloom quality to this knife. ELMAX provides the extreme edge retention, high strength, and toughness a hard-use knife demands. High wear resistance in a steel usually means low corrosion resistance, but not with ELMAX. With this advanced steel, you get both properties, which makes it an excellent steel for high end folders.
The handle is formed from marbled carbon fiber with precision fit stainless damascus bolsters. Anodized titanium liners surround the floating bead blasted titanium back spacer. The handle is completed with a machined, anodized titanium pocket clip.
Exceptional work throughout!
