Description: A war hammer is a late medieval weapon of war intended for close combat action. It is a formidable weapon. War hammers were developed as a consequence of the prevalence of surface-hardened armor during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The hardened steel armor made swords only deliver glancing blows, losing much of their impact. A war hammer could deliver the full force of a blow to the target.
This war hammer was hand forged by Black Dragon Forge, led by South African knifemaker Neels van den Berg. The head measures 8 inches from the tip of the spike to the end of the hammer. The forged head features a split hammer. The dual spike was split culminating with a keyhole. The haft is formed from oak wood. The straight grained, wood has a slightly orangish hue and is a classic choice for a haft.
Nice work throughout!
