Description: Mastersmith Josh Smith's work has a fit and finish rarely found in other maker's knives -- even from other masters. This knife has been in a private collection, it has been meticulously cared for and is in new condition. By all appearances it could have been made yesterday.
Golden hues are the dominant theme of this folding linerlock. The heat colored damascus on the blade and bolsters is very detailed and well executed with virtually no distortion. The fineness of the pattern coupled with the sheer depth and beauty that the heat coloring adds to the piece speak volumes about Josh's aesthetic sense, design vision, and technical proficiency.
Presentation grade mammoth ivory scales meet perfectly with the dovetailed bolsters. Thousands of years buried in the permafrost have give the ivory caramel tones that echo the heat colored steel. Screws throughout are fully fileworked. The mirror finished backbar has been fileworked and is surrounded by fileworked and heat blued 15N20 carbon steel liners. Josh's name, as well as the M.S. mark are found on opposing faces of the internal liners.
The action on this folder is silky smooth. A faceted citrine is set into the thumbstud. Exceptional fit and finish throughout.
